I met Mae before my freshman year of college even started, at Fish Camp. supposedly Travis was there too but neither of us have any recollection of him being there. he's in the group pictures though so I guess it must be true. I thought Mae was way too cool to be my friend & didn't really see the acquaintance-ship going past the end of Fish Camp. boy was I wrong!! Mae & I kept running into each other the first week of school until we decided fate wanted us to be friends. come to find out our dorm buildings were right next to each other & we could literally see into each other's rooms. obviously, we spent most of our waking hours together, whether that was studying, eating, or just hanging out.
fast forward to our sophomore year, Mae & Travis finally got together. I got to spend the next five years watching them grow in their relationship & quietly waiting for Travis to pop the question. I promised Mae that whenever the time came, I would be over the moon to take their engagement photos.
I finallyyyy got a facetime call from Mae in July & lo & behold there was a ring on that finger!! I immediately jumped into planning their engagement session & started a countdown to the day of.
these are obviously some of the most special photos I've ever taken. there's nothing that quite compares to taking photos of your best friends' love for each other after getting to watch that love grow. without further ado, please enjoy some of my favorites!!
we started off at Bastrop State Park in, you guessed it, Bastrop, Texas. it was a bit of a hike from where Mae & Travis live, but oh so worth it. it was absolutely gorgeous & fit the vision for their photos so perfectly. the sun was just dropping behind the trees as we got there & the way the light filtered through the leaves lit their photos so beautifully. we spent about three hours here, through golden hour into blue hour. I took so many photos here (some people might say too many) but here are some of the best golden hour shots.
we moved around to the other side of the lake & Mae & Trav changed outfits, & then we shot my dream Pinterest-inspired shoot. the vibes were immaculate. we definitely got a few weird looks from the people who were camping on the lake but it was so so so worth it.
this was, of course, a two day shoot. Mae & I have been planning this for literal years so really there was no way it wouldn't be. after a night of beauty sleep & lunch with Travis's mom for Mae's birthday, we made our way to Boerne, Texas to a beautiful wildlife preserve. these photos were everything my little western photographer heart could've dreamed of & I absolutely love how they turned out.
we obviously took some time for the detail shots. I feel like sometimes in non-wedding shoots that's something that gets overlooked but I wanted to make sure every little moment was preserved forever. I'm going to be showing these photos to our kids one day & they need to feel like they were there for it! call me crazy I guess.
& of course a moment for the black & white photos. maybe my favorite shots out of every shoot. I think that when you take the color out of a photo, it really lets the emotion shine through. that's definitely the case for these. my dear friend Kayla of Kayla Willis Photo & Film helped me with these & they wouldn't have been nearly as beautiful without her help. Mae & Travis's love really shines through in these photos & I'll 100% be hanging these up in my own house. weird? yes. do I care? not particularly. enjoy!
I hope y'all enjoyed this little glimpse into such a special day. Mae & Travis, I hope you know how honored I am to have gotten to capture this for y'all. June 1 can't come soon enough!!
xo, Caroline
